My interest in art began in high school and it took me to Valdosta State University, a small, but rapidly growing university in south Georgia, where I majored in art. I took all kinds of classes in drawing, painting, ceramics, printmaking, 3-D animation, and graphic design. It was the latter field that I threw myself into. I graduated with honors on a humid, south-Georgia afternoon in June of 2000.
After college I held a few design positions before I went into mission work in Cairo, Egypt. I found ways to put my graphic design talents to use there, and I also taught English as a second language to some very bright Egyptian schoolchildren.
When I returned from Egypt in July of 2006, I realized that my talents as a graphic designer could be of great use to non-profit organizations even in America. In May of 2008 I began working at St. Martin's Episcopal Church in the Brookhaven, GA as Administrator of Communications and then moved Northside United Methodist Church in Atlanta, GA where I led an amazing design team as Director of Creative Services. I currently hold a Communications Specialist position with the Georgia Department of Education.
My other interests include astronomy, photography, science fiction, and in recent years I have taken up running. As of this writing, I have run four marathons, 20+ half marathons, and numerous 10Ks and 5Ks. In January of 2015, I ran the Goofy Challenge at Walt Disney World, which consists of a half marathon on one day, and a full marathon on the next. Most recently, I ran the Georgia Marathon in March of 2017. The training continues!
